2000 American Troops have now been killed in Iraq, but for over two years, our newspapers have failed to adequately honor the sacrifice of America 's servicemembers.  Putting the names of the fallen on page A14 is an insult to America 's Troops and to the families of the fallen, and is yet another example of poor media coverage of the war.

For several months, IAVA has listed the names of our fallen servicemembers on its first page and we ask that our nation's newpapers do the same. Help us accomplish this critical first step in honoring our fallen servicemembers.

Step 1 - Write to your local newpaper

Write to your local newspaper and urge them to print casualty reports on the front page. Click here to use our easy tool to send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper to insist they properly Honor the Fallen. If your letter gets printed, let us know at media[at]iava.org!

Success!  IAVA supporters have had their letters published in newspapers across the country, including:

Newsday (New York/Long Island)
Boston Globe
Baltimore Sun
San Diego Union Tribune
Columbia Daily Tribune (Missouri)
Columbia Missourian
The Record (North Jersey)
The Marshfield Herald (MA/South Shore)
The Morning Sun (Kansas)
The Joplin Globe (Missouri)
The Killeen Daily Herald (TX)

Total Messages Sent: 5414 to 774 newpapers (As of 11/21 at 3:00pm)

Step 2 - Tell your friends to do the same
Please urge your friends to join our campaign. We must convince our nation's newspapers that this is the right first step in honoring our fallen servicemembers, but only the voices of many will succeed in doing so.

Step 3 - Bookmark this page and check back for updates
We will update you on the newspapers or other media outlets that have agreed to list casualty reports on the front page.

(Are you a newspaper that has decided to publish casualty reports on your front page? Please let us know by sending a message to media[at]iava.org!)

Step 4 - Watch our new 'Better Way' TV Ad

On Thursday, Oct 27th, IAVA began airing a new, nationwide television ad. The hard-hitting ad calls for a change in course in Iraq, and an exit strategy that honors the sacrifice of the more than 2000 American Troops killed in the war.  See it here.

IAVA's Honor the Fallen campaign is endorsed by Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, Veterans for Common Sense, Democracy for America, MoveOn.org CivicAction, TrueMajorityAction, and Free Press.
