On January 3, IAVA joined nine other veterans organizations in signing a letter to the President, urging him to approve $3.7 billion in funding for the Veterans Administration. Today, the current Montgomery GI Bill has a number of problems  discouraging veterans from using their benefits, including lower benefit rates, bureaucractic delays, and eligibility issues. The Vets BillAfter returning from Iraq in 2005, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) Legislative Director Patrick Campbell drafted a bill to help veterans complete their educations.  Based on Campbell's leadership and recommendations, Senator Sherrod Brown (OH) and Representative Susan Davis (CA) introduced The Veterans Education Tuition Support (VETS) Act in Congress.

IAVA Endorses 'Veterans Suicide Hotline Act of 2007' | Print |  Email
The US House of RepresentativesEach year, approximately 115,300 veterans attempt suicide, accounting for nearly one in five suicide attempts in the entire nation. Known as the "Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline Act of 2007" (H.R. 2219), the legislation would create a 24-hour national toll-free hotline to assist our nation's veterans in crisis.
