In January 2006, ABC News Anchor Bob Woodruff was seriously injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq. In February 2007, just thirteen months after being wounded, Mr. Woodruff returned to ABC News with his first on-air report, "To Iraq and Back: Bob Woodruff Reports." The documentary chronicled his traumatic brain injury (TBI), his painstaking recovery, and the plight of thousands of service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with similar injuries. Woodruff, with the help of his wife Lee and their foundation Bob Woodruff Family Fund for Traumatic Brain Injury, continues to educate the public on the issue of TBI.

Illinois’ VA Director and Iraq Veteran Tammy Duckworth is a dedicated advocate for troops and veterans. As Battle Captain and Assistant Operations Officer, she served her country until she was gravely injured during a mission in November 2004. Despite losing both of her legs, Director Duckworth continues to lead as a Major with the Illinois National Guard, Director of Illinois’ Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and as an inspiration to troops and veterans everywhere.
