The War Tapes
Deborah Scranton. 2006. 97 min. (U.S.)
In March 2004, several members of one National Guard unit arrived in Iraq carrying digital video cameras. The stories of this diverse group provide an intimate portrait of the Iraq war that we have not yet seen. Part journal, part joke book, and part witness, The War Tapes offers a view of war as it is experienced from the inside. We see what the soldiers are thinking every step of the way, from their views on the media's coverage of Operation Iraqi Freedom to how they miss their loved ones back home. Candid, raw, and strikingly honest, The War Tapes exposes the culture of combat and the humanity of war in the 21st century.
