Dear Friend,
Tip One For The Troops
After a week of what looks to be exhausting political debate over the war, why not leave politics at the door and join us on the dock!
You are invited to a pregame party to rally the runners of the Navy Five Mile Run & the Marine Corps Marathon as they prepare to hoof it in support of our guys and gals stationed overseas and returning home.
Fellow Metro-area supporters and the next generation of veterans are invited to enjoy an afternoon on the beautiful Southwest Waterfront in support of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America for a late-afternoon, all night mini music festival only minutes away from Capitol Hill at Cantina Marina.
Acoustic duo and local favorite, Easy Company, will open the Veteran musician line-up. Marine corpsman Jared Rieckewald and fellow Georgetown Hoya alum Ajit Verghese comprise the guitar duo that will play our favorite covers and some of their own original work.
Virginia's own The Influence of Music will headline the event's live music roster. The Influence now stands among the elite bands in their Hampton Roads music scene. Following a nine month tour in Jordon in 2002, Marine corpsman John Zintoni and childhood friend Will Clarke formed The Influence, whose most recent studio effort was produced at the Belmeade Mansion in the Virginia countryside.
And most recently, North Carolina-based Bandazian has decided to travel up from Asheville to join the musical roster. This blues infused alt rock quartet claims two OIF veterans among its members who are eager to come up and share their colorful vintage aesthetic with the diverse talent already in line to perform.
IAVA works to provide media attention and increase awareness for policies that properly provide for our Troops and Veterans and to keep the spotlight on the stories and experiences of those who served. Email
to RSVP, learn more about the event and see how you can be a part of supporting our soldiers and young veterans by attending.
